How Many Vittles Vaults can you Stack?
I have quite a few pets. We buy two different kinds of dog food as well as rat kibble.
I love the Vittles Vault. It’s that stackable food storage thing with the spin top. It works really well to keep the kibble in an airtight environment.
You can get the from most pet stores, or of course, Amazon:

Here’s a tip: buy bigger than you think you need. I bought the 40-gallon for a 30-gallon bag of kibble. That way I don’t have to wait until it is totally empty before I dump another bag in. Also their estimates differ based on what you put in it. Bird seed will take up less space than dog kibble, for instance.
Another tip: Make sure you buy the ones with the angled neck. They also make containers that are not stackable.
They say they are stackable, but how many can you stack?
They recommend no more than two. Psh, I thought. I tried to do three.
This setup has two of the 60-gallon ones on the bottom with a 40-gallon one at the top. (I know it looks like the top one is bigger, but that’s just an illusion due to the camera angle).
My findings: don’t stack three.
Even though it was really stable and I never felt like it would tip over (they have little indents that fit into the one below), I discovered it’s too much weight. The one on the bottom would not close properly. The wheel would not spin because the shape of the container got a little distorted with that much weight on top.
So I went back to stacking two.
Much better.
Here’s a tip: It works a lot better if you put the top one vertically instead of horizontally. It doesn’t make a difference as far as how easily the bottom one opens, but you get more volume that way. You can fill the top one all the way up to the spin lid, as opposed to when you have it horizontally (like the bottom one), in which filling it all the way would cause some to spill out.
